Multimedia

Mac OS 8 offers new ways
to create and experience multimedia
on CD-ROM and the Internet.

QuickTime VR

The QuickTime VR extension allows your computer to display "virtual reality" environments. For example, you can browse a virtual museum, turning 360 degrees to scan the room and zooming in on things that interest you.

Below is an example of a QuickTime VR environment. (If the scene doesn't appear, make sure you have the QuickTime VR extension installed in your Extensions folder and the QuickTime Plug-In, version 1.1 or higher, installed in the Plug-In folder of your Web browser.)

To scan the scene, hold down the mouse button as you drag within the picture. To zoom in, press the Option key. To zoom out, press the Control key.

QuickTime MPEG

The QuickTime MPEG extension allows you to play MPEG video files on your computer. MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group) is a worldwide industry standard for compressing video.

QuickDraw 3D

QuickDraw 3D is a new extension that enables your computer to display three-dimensional objects. You can rotate an object, move it, or zoom in on a portion of it.

QuickDraw 3D also provides a common file format, called 3DMF (for "3D metafile"), for exchanging three-dimensional documents.
