MacLinkPlus

What can I do with MacLinkPlus?

MacLinkPlus is file translation software that allows you to easily use DOS or Windows files, convert Mac OS files into DOS or Windows files, and convert files between different Mac OS formats.

When translating between different Mac OS and PC formats, MacLinkPlus makes sure the file's original formatting remains intact (i.e., bold, italics, graphics, etc.). Once a file is translated, you can use the file in the new application format just as if it had been created in that format. MacLinkPlus can convert between thousands of combinations of file formats, including word-processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and database formats.

MacLinkPlus is for anyone who needs to

  • use files created in DOS or Windows applications
  • use files created in Macintosh applications different from the one they use (For example, you use Microsoft Word for the Mac OS, but your colleagues use ClarisWorks or WordPerfect.)

How can I get started?

Perhaps the best thing about MacLinkPlus is that you won't see it until you need it. Your computer came with a System Extension called Mac OS Easy Open. When you double-click a file that was created by an application you don't have, Mac OS Easy Open gives you a choice of all the applications on your computer in which you can open the file. Once you select an application, MacLinkPlus translates the file.
